Infosys probed for violation of visa rules, Nasscom cries foul

Following reports of tech giants TCS and Infosys being probed for alleged H-1B visa rule violations, industry body Nasscom has alleged that attempts have been made to defame the Indian IT sector and project it in a negative light, without considering the facts and logic.

According to an ET report, the industry body asserted that Indian IT firms have been compliant with the US visa regulation. R Chandrashekhar, president of the chamber, noted that its members has always been cooperative and have shared as and when required by the US authorities.

"It has been brought to our attention that there are unconfirmed media reports of US government opening investigation against two Indian IT companies...We believe that Indian IT companies have been and will remain compliant with all US visa regulations," said Chandrashekhar, who has earlier served as Secretary in the Departments of Telecom and Information Technology in the report.

On being asked if the entire incident was for gaining political mileage ahead of the Presidential elections in the US, Chandrashekhar said that such efforts would have "serious detrimental impact" on the strategic trade ties that both the countries enjoy.

It should be noted that the US will be going in for Presidential elections in 2016. It is also the largest market for the Indian IT industry.
