  • Carnival Cruise Lines just added its latest ship: the AIDAnova.
  • It holds around 6,600 passengers and features a high ropes course, three water slides, a live TV studio, two private "islands," and 40 bars and restaurants.
  • AIDAnova is also the first cruise ship in the world to run on liquefied natural gas, a clean-burning fossil fuel.

Carnival Cruise Lines and its German brand AIDA Cruises introduced the newest addition to their 100-plus fleet of ships: the AIDAnova.

AIDAnova was named on August 31 in front of 25,000 spectators at an open-air concert headlined by David Guetta. Along with a slew of on-board features, the AIDAnova is distinctive for being the first cruise ship to be powered by liquefied natural gas, which is the world's cleanest burning fossil fuel.

The AIDAnova will embark on its maiden voyage in December. Here's a sneak peek of the gargantuan ship:

AIDAnova can accommodate 6,600 passengers and 1,500 crew members, making it the fifth-biggest ship in the world.

Reportedly costing nearly $800 million to build, AIDAnova is 1,080 feet long and weighs 184,000 tons.

There are plenty of options for food or drink. Passengers can choose from 17 restaurants and 23 bars.

The Time Machine restaurant seeks to mix "experience and culinary art." Guests take a trip through history and the future during their dinner.

Guests at the Ocean restaurant can enjoy seafood while surrounded by multimedia projections of the sea.

Or, they can keep it casual at the Street Food strip, which will offer favorites like doner kebab, currywurst, and baguette sandwiches.

There's also the Churrascaria Steakhouse, which features the Brazilian favorite of grilled meat skewers.

The Teppanyaki Grill features communal seating, where food is prepared in front of the guests.

And, there's a sushi joint on board.

AIDAnova also boasts the first-ever TV studio at sea, Studio X, where shows will be produced and broadcasted in front of up to 500 guests. At night, entertainment can be found at the cocktail bar, disco, or pub featuring trivia and karaoke.

It has a jungle theme; guests can climb above the tree top, float on the river, or try out one of the three water slides.

There's also lounge seating for those just looking to veg out. The Beach Club, which was designed with a Caribbean vibe, is covered by a foil dome that allows the sun in while keeping the rain out.

And, if that's not enough relaxation, the Body & Soul Organic Spa is nearly 40,000 square feet with more than 80 treatments. It also features two private "islands" for wellness experiences geared towards couples.

Finally, there are 20 different types of staterooms, ranging from indoor single staterooms to a penthouse suite.

AIDAnova makes its inaugural cruise in early December. The eight-day cruise will tour the Canary Islands, and prices start from $625.
