Indian foodtech unicorn Swiggy has come a long way from its inception in 2014. Founded by Sriharsha Majety, Nandan Reddy, and Rahul Jaimini, the food aggregator had in 2018 become India’s fastest unicorn.

In December 2018, the food delivery startup further raked up a whopping $1 billion in funding, taking up its valuation to $3.3 billion.

And the startup is also expanding its offerings moving on from just food delivery to groceries, medicines and more.

Here’s a look at the interesting facts and figures of the foodtech unicorn

Dialling up delivery

When Swiggy started in Bengaluru in 2014, it had just 6 delivery partners. Today, its numbers have swollen to have 200,000 delivery partners across 290 cities. The delivery partners have travelled over 511.4 crore kilometres.

Order Order

In the 5 years of its journey, Swiggy has also managed to whip up some pretty interesting delivery stories. Its most loyal customer is a Bengaluru based user who has ordered through Swiggy 17,962 times while another consumer once ordered ice creams worth ₹76,257.

Biryani, please!

And of course, India’s most favourite dish Biryani too comes into the picture – the foodtech unicorn claims it gets 43 biryani orders per minute. This is followed by the most number of orders for dosas and the burgers.

Domino’s, McDonald’s lead the numbers

Subway, Domino’s, McDonald’s and Burger King have the highest number of orders in the last 5 years. This comes in as a surprise with Domino’s and McDonald’s also running their own delivery service. In fact, Domino’s still uses its own delivery executives even for orders from food aggregators.
