Sushma Swaraj’s funeral will be held at Lodhi Road in Delhi today

Former External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj passed away due to cardiac arrest on 6 August, Tuesday.

The mortal remains will be taken to the party headquarters at 12 pm today. “And the final rites would be performed at Lodhi Road crematorium at 3 pm,” Zee News reported citing JP Nadda, BJP President.

The BJP leader died at the age of 67 at Delhi’s All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).

In her last tweet, Swaraj lauded Narendra Modi over the decision on Kashmir, calling it “bold and ironic”. Thank you Prime Minister. Thank you very much. I was waiting to see this day in my lifetime, she said.

Swaraj’s sudden demise came as a shock to Indian politics and its leaders. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Ram Nath Kovind, Congress’ Rahul Gandhi and others also expressed their grief.

“Sushma ji’s demise is a personal loss. She will be remembered fondly for everything that she’s done for India. My thoughts are with her family, supporters and admirers in this very unfortunate hour. Om Shanti." Modi tweeted last night.




Earlier, the BJP leader had refused to contest the Lok Sabha Elections 2019 citing health reasons.
