Subir Gokarn meets Raghuram Rajan, stirs speculation of becoming the next RBI chief

Speculations are rife that Subir Gokarn, former RBI deputy governor, could also become the next RBI Governor as he met outgoing chief Raghuram Rajan and Finance Secretary Shaktikanta Das.
Earlier, name of Arvind Panagariya had surfaced as the next RBI Governor.
However, the Indian Government has not yet finalised the date of the announcing the next RBI Governor.
Meanwhile, the monetary policy on Tuesday is likely to be the last one by Rajan.
Gokarn, 56, was the youngest to be appointed deputy governor of the RBI in 2009.
He has also served at Standard and Poor's as chief economist for Asia-Pacific between 2007 and 2009. He holds a Ph.D in economics from Case Western Reserve University, US.
