15. OUTER LONDON SOUTH — You might be surprised that a part of London is included in the list, but it climbed three places this year to be one of the very best places in the UK to live. It was driven by high levels of disposable income and top ten life expectancies for both men and women.
14. WIRRAL — The Wirral on the border between north west England and Wales has jumped into the top 15. People who live in the Wirral can expect good education, and some of the best employment opportunities.
13. CENTRAL BEDFORDSHIRE — The region to the north east of London has jumped from 31st to 13th in this year's ranking. Only one UK area has a higher level of employment, and the region also ranked in the 20 places for lowest mortality rates.
12. SOUTH NOTTINGHAMSHIRE — Despite falling eight places from the last ranking, South Nottinghamshire scored strongly across all 26 variables, and did particularly well in having low petrol prices and high male life expectancy. Both ranked in the top ten.
11. SURREY — Despite falling six places this year, Surrey still has one of the highest qualities of life anywhere in Britain. Men have the highest life expectancy in the whole of the UK, and women aren't far behind. Couple that with the second best disposable income level and its clear why Surrey is a very desirable place to live.
10. INVERCLYDE, EAST RENFREWSHIRE AND RENFREWSHIRE — In uSwitch's 2013 ranking, the region was one of the worst places in the UK to live. But fast broadband, low levels of council tax and low rental prices helped it climb by 102 places in this year's survey.
9. YORK — York is home to cheap petrol, low levels of pollution, and is in the top 15 regions for school grades. It also has a beautiful cathedral!
8. NORTH LANARKSHIRE — Only one place in the whole of the UK (East Lothian) has lower rental prices than North Lanarkshire. Add being the third most employed region into the mix, and you can see why the quality of life is so high.
7. DARLINGTON — Cheap insurance premiums, petrol and food, along with very speedy broadband are big reasons for people to move to Darlington.
6. BERKSHIRE — Residents in Berkshire can look forward to some of the best incomes in Britain, along with lots of new cars. Berkshire has one of the highest rates of new car registrations in the UK.
5. SOUTH LANARKSHIRE — Low house prices and rents, as well as high levels of employment make the birthplace of famous explorer David Livingstone a great place to live.
4. NORTHUMBERLAND — Along with having stunning coastlines, people in Northumberland can enjoy low food prices, and the 4th lowest crime rate in the whole country.
3. HERTFORDSHIRE — Excellent school grades and some of the highest levels of disposable income make Hertfordshire one of the best places to live in the UK.
2. SOLIHULL — Solihull was top of the pile last time uSwitch ranked the best places to live, but was just pipped to the post this year. It's still a great place to live though, with high salaries, fast broadband, and low car insurance premiums.
1. EDINBURGH — Scotland's capital jumped by 97 places in this year's ranking, and is officially the best place to live in the UK, according to uSwitch. This is thanks in large part to having the lowest crime rate in the UK, and a high average salary of £29,588.
