The director of the National Economic Council and close adviser to President Donald Trump denied recent reports that he was looking to take over the top job at the Federal Reserve during an interview with CNBC on Friday.

When asked by CNBC's Carl Quintanilla about becoming the chair of the Fed, Cohn said he is happy where he is.

"No, I have a great job right now," Cohn said. "Serving the President has been a dream come true."

A report from Axios' Mike Allen on Tuesday said that there may be shake up in the works at White House and that Cohn had told friends that he wants to eventually become the head of the central bank. Since current chair Janet Yellen's term as head of the Fed ends in February 2018, there was speculation that the move could come sooner rather than later.

Of course, Cohn was unlikely to throw his hat in to the ring for the Fed role while on national TV, but it seems for now that the rumor is just that: a rumor.
