Sensex, Nifty take a breather taking cues from Asian peers

The Indian benchmark indices are taking a breather on Wednesday morning with the Nifty50 and BSE Sensex trading flat. The Nifty at the time of publishing this copy, is at 19,377 while the Sensex is at 65,399.

The Asian markets are down as a pack too and Dalal Street maybe taking this as a cue for a slight pause after the a five-day rally, in which the Nifty 50 has gained over 700 points. The Japanese Nikkei is down over 120 points, the Chinese Shanghai has also taken a half percent cut while Hong Kong's Hang Seng has taken a 1.2% fall.

At the time of publishing, IndusInd Bank HDFC Life and Divis Labs are the top three gainers, up close to 2.5% each. The HDFC twins - HDFC Bank and HDFC - are the top losers, down around 2.5% each.

The Indian market has been rallying and the equity investors' wealth has gone up by Rs 7.90 lakh crore in the five-day rally courtesy unabated foreign fund inflows and largely bullish investor sentiments.

Meanwhile, in the currency market, the rupee depreciated 7 paise to 82.08 against the US dollar in early trade on Wednesday, weighed down by strength of the American currency in the overseas market amid an increased demand for the dollar from importers.

At Tuesday's close, the 30-share BSE Sensex jumped 274 points or 0.42% to settle at its all-time closing high of 65,479.05. During the day, the benchmark surged 467.92 points or 0.71% to hit its lifetime intra-day peak of 65,672.97. The NSE Nifty climbed 66.45 points or 0.34% to end at a fresh record high of 19,389. During the day, it advanced 111.6 points or 0.57% to hit its all-time intra-day peak of 19,434.15.
