- Patrick Mahomes is the best quarterback in the NFL, and Jalen Hurts is not far behind.
- Both were passed over in the NFL Draft, and now they will face each other in the Super Bowl.
In 2017, one pick after the Cleveland Browns drafted defensive end Myles Garrett No. 1 overall, the Chicago Bears traded up one spot and used the second pick on Mitchell Trubisky out of North Carolina.

After four rocky seasons in Chicago, the Bears let Trubisky go after his rookie contract. He spent one season as a backup for the Buffalo Bills before moving on to the Pittsburgh Steelers. This past season, he began the year as the starter but was replaced in Week 5 by rookie Kenny Pickett.

Mahomes was drafted out of Texas Tech in 2017 and was the second QB drafted that year, but he still fell to the 10th pick by the Kansas City Chiefs. The Houston Texans drafted Deshaun Watson two picks later as the only other first-round QB in 2017.

Mahomes became the starter in his second season. He has led the Chiefs to the AFC Championship game in all five seasons as a starter and three Super Bowls. He is widely regarded as the best QB in the NFL and a potential heir to Tom Brady as the GOAT.

In the 2020 draft — the one that infamously took place in NFL commissioner Roger Goodell's basement due to the pandemic — LSU's Joe Burrow was the first player selected, going to the Cincinnati Bengals.

In just his third season, Burrow is already considered one of the best and has led the Bengals to the Super Bowl in his second season and the AFC title game in his third.

The Miami Dolphins selected Alabama's Tua Tagovailoa with the fifth pick after the Commanders, Lions, and Giants all selected non-QBs.

Some questioned Tua's future in Miami after a shaky first season, but he thrived in Year 3 under new coach Mike McDaniel. The biggest concern now is head injuries after some scary concussions in 2022.

With the sixth pick, the LA Chargers chose Justin Herbert out of Oregon.

Herbert is another player you can't blame teams for going ahead of Hurts. He became the starter in Week 2 of his rookie year and has started every game since. He is now considered to have one of the best arms in the NFL although the Chargers are yet to reach the playoffs with him.

Near the end of the first round, the Green Bay Packers traded up four spots to select Jordan Love out of Utah State.

Love has started just one game in three years sitting behind Aaron Rodgers. That could change next season if Rodgers moves on to a new team.

Hurts was the next QB drafted, but not until the 53rd pick, late in the second round, when the Eagles nabbed the Heisman runner-up out of Oklahoma.

Hurts became the starter late in his rookie year, had an up-and-down second season, and then exploded in Year 3. This year, the Eagles have gone 16-1 with Hurts as the starter (including the playoffs) and are in the Super Bowl. He has become one of the top dual-threat QBs, throwing for 22 TDs and rushing for 13 more in 2022.
