With the start of a new year, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) reintroduced the Yo-Yo Test and the introduction of Dexa scans for selection to the team.

The Yo-Yo test is a variation of the beep test, a running, aerobic fitness test that involves running between two sets of cones that are 20 meters apart.

Once the beep is sounded, the player has to reach the cone on the other side at the next beep. The player must return to the initial cone before the third beep sounds. Once the return trip is made, it marks the completion of a shuttle.

DEXA scans help to measure the body fat percentage, lean muscle mass, water content, and bone density of the cricketer. According to BCCI, Dexa is a fool-proof method for fitness testing.

2022 saw key Indian cricketers such as Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja get injured and re-injured, with many others suffering from various injuries. The Dexa scan and YoYo test will accurately depict the players’ fitness and physical condition.
