Sport for athletes who are physically challenged has existed for more than 100 years, and the first sport clubs for the hearing-impaired were already in existence in 1888 in Berlin.

In 2004, Jhajharia qualified for his first Summer Paralympic Games representing India at Athens and set a new record of 62.15 metres. He also won the gold medal at the 2016 Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro.

He is currently being supported by the Olympic Gold Quest. He took part in the 7th World Para Athletics Grand Prix held in Beijing, China, 2019 and won a gold medal.

He won a silver medal in javelin throw and a bronze medal in discus throw in Asian Para Games 2018. He also set a world record at the 16th Para Athletics National Championship in Panchkula winning three gold medals in three events.

Navdeep, whose first international event was the 2017 Asian Youth Para Games, produced a brilliant throw of 43.58 metres in his third attempt to take the gold in men’s javelin F-41 event and secured a quota for the Paralympic Games.

A couple of weeks ago, India’s javelin star Neeraj Chopra had become the first Indian to win an individual gold in the Olympics in track-and-field, at the Tokyo Olympics 2020.
