This morning, Rohit Sharma led the Indian cricket team as they finally returned to India with the ICC T20 World Cup trophy. The team had boarded a specially arranged charter flight after being stranded for several days in Barbados due to a Category 4 hurricane. Fans welcomed the champions at the airport with placards, congratulating them for ending an 11-year drought.
According to ANI, the team checked in at the Hotel ITC Maurya in Delhi and met their families.
After meeting the Prime Minister, the team will fly to Mumbai to take part in an open bus victory parade, followed by a felicitation ceremony at the Wankhede Stadium. Captain Rohit Sharma and BCCI Secretary Jay Shah took to social media yesterday to invite fans to join the victory parade. The skipper wrote on X: “India, we want to enjoy this special moment with all of you. So let’s celebrate this win with a victory parade at Marine Drive & Wankhede on July 4 from 5:00 pm onwards. It’s coming home."
The victory parade will take place in Mumbai from Nariman Point to Wankhede Stadium, from 5 to 7 PM. A huge crowd is expected to come and cheer for the Indian team.
