Many drivers know the dreadful feeling of getting pulled over for speeding.

During a question-and-answer session on Instagram last week, the American gymnastics superstar Simone Biles said she got a speeding ticket on her way to practice ahead of her breakout performance at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

And in an awkward twist of fate, the same police officer who'd issued her ticket was "randomly assigned" to escort her through the airport once she arrived home with four golds and a bronze medal in tow, she said.

"He felt so bad but he didn't know," Biles wrote on Instagram. "And I wasn't about to say hey pls no I'm training for the Olympics."

Not everyone has such an impressive explanation for exceeding the speed limit, but Biles said the officer encouraged her to use that excuse in the future.

"He said if I would have said that it would have worked," Biles wrote, adding a emoji. "Learned my lesson...."

Biles is fresh off the Tokyo Olympics, where she won two medals despite withdrawing from five medal events as she struggled with the pressure she felt on sports' biggest stage and a case of the twisties, a dangerous phenomenon that causes disorientation midair. Her experience in Tokyo sparked a larger conversation about how we treat athletes' mental health.

Now that the games are over, Biles is set to go on the "Gold Over America Tour" alongside current and former USA Gymnastics teammates. The tour begins September 21 in Tucson, Arizona, and continues in US cities until early November.

It remains unclear whether Biles will continue training for Paris 2024 after the tour. Though she's said Tokyo would be her final Olympics, Biles has hinted that she's "leaving the door open" to a return given her tumultuous experience at this summer's games.
