LaLiga was the first European club to broadcast its matches on Facebook in countries like India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bhutan and more. This has been attributed as one of the reasons for its growth.

Bermejo, during a conversation with Business Insider India mentioned that India has been one of the top three countries in terms of digital fans over the last six years and is one of the key markets for LaLiga.

LaLiga to revamp its app

LaLiga has also announced that it is revamping its application. The app, which was launched in 2012 has been downloaded over 30 million times and has over 1.6 million monthly active users.

As part of the revamp, the application will be upgraded from a results-based app to become the “go-to digital resource” for football fans.

After the update, users will be required to sign-up to be able to the app. The league has claimed that this is to allow it to “enrich the LaLiga digital ecosystem”.
