Joe Burrow could not be stopped in the first half of the College Football Playoff semifinal.
LSU's Heisman-winning quarterback put on a show in the first 30 minutes of the Peach Bowl against Oklahoma on Saturday to all but secure the Tigers a spot in the national championship.
It was an absolutely historic half for Burrow, who completed 21 of 27 passes for 403 yards and a whopping seven touchdowns, breaking college football playoff records for touchdown passes, passing yards in a half, and points in a half.
Wide receiver Justin Jefferson was the major beneficiary of Burrow's brilliance, taking in nine receptions for 186 yards and four touchdowns in the first half.
All of Burrow's skills were on display through the first half - accuracy, composure in the pocket, and ability to throw on the run. At times, it felt as there was simply nothing the Oklahoma defense could do to slow the Tigers march.
By halftime, LSU led the Sooners 49-14, with Oklahoma having only secured eight first downs to Burrow's seven touchdowns.
Making matters worse, LSU deferred starting the game, meaning that they would be receiving the opening kickoff to start the second half.
Oklahoma had a solid season en route to taking the Big 12 title, but it only took a few minutes for it to become clear that Burrow and the LSU offense are on another level.
