Conor McGregor just joked in an Instagram story about making a sequel to "Superbad" that would see him and McLovin join the IRA (Irish Republican Army).

The 31-year-old has not fought in the UFC since his conclusive 2018 loss to lightweight rival Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229 last year, but has been active on social media throughout the year, live tweeting about fights and posting photos of his partner Dee Devlin and son Conor Jack Jr. on Instagram.

This week, he posted a selfie that showed him wearing glasses and a thick beard, in a car, with his son in a babyseat in the back.

A follower made a comment about how McGregor is starting to look like 37-year-old actor Seth Rogen, known for movies like "The 40-Year-Old Virgin," "Superbad," and "Pineapple Express."

In a now-deleted Instagram story, McGregor responded by saying: "You bad-ass mother-f----- Seth, can't wait for Superbad 2. McGregor and McLovin join the IRA."

The IRA, a paramilitary organization which believes all of Ireland should be free from British rule, is known partly for its history of violence - though it's unlikely this is what McGregor was referring to.

Conor McGregor has comeback options

It has been one year since McGregor's last fight, and almost three years since his last victory, a stoppage win over Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205 on November 12, 2016.

The biggest UFC fights have been excluding McGregor, as the lightweight and welterweight divisions have moved on without him.

However, he does still have options.

The featherweight wrestler Frankie Edgar challenged McGregor to a fight this week, just months after the Irishman messaged the UFC boss Dana White about the same thing.

This followed the Irish boxer Luke Keeler telling McGregor to "stay sober" long enough so they can end their war of words fight for a world middleweight title in boxing next summer.
