American fighter Jordan Wright chased his opponent around the UFC Octagon while spamming him with an array of strikes Saturday at UFC 262 in Texas.

It was the 29-year-old's third bout in the pandemic era of combat sport. All three fights have ended in finishes. In his first bout he left a hole in Isaac Villanueva's face to force a doctor's stoppage last summer. Next up, he succumbed to a knockout finish at the fists of Joaquin Buckley later in 2020.

On Saturday, in front of 16,005 fans at the Toyota Center in Houston, Wright mercilessly hunted Jamie Pickett to secure a first-round finish with a knee to the head during a clinch.

Wright threw everything he could at his middleweight opponent and secured a 64-second knockout during the preliminary card on ESPN+, as he continues to make a name for himself as a UFC finisher.

For Wright, it was a great way to rebound following his loss to Buckley.

"It was a great step in my career coming back from my first official loss and correcting a lot of the mistakes I made in my last fight, showing a great performance," he said in a statement sent to Insider.

"The game plan was to just kind of feel it out, stay pressured, don't let him capitalize on his game too much and if he gives me an opportunity, take it."

He continued: "To be honest, I would have been happy with a decision win, I would have been happy with a submission. I am a finisher, but I don't rush the finish, I try to let the finish come to me as efficiently as I can."

Saturday's fight was Wright's first in front of fans during the pandemic, with the event generating ticket sales of $4.11 million, according to a UFC statement sent to Insider.

"It was really cool. I really felt the love," said Wright. "Before you walk out, you're standing in the tunnel and you're seeing the people there saying, 'Jordan, I love you. Jordan, you're going to win. Jordan, I bet money on you.'

"It's cool to see that it's still there. I live by the songbird mentality. The praise doesn't get to me and the negativity doesn't get to me. I'm the songbird just singing my song and doing my thing whether people like it or not."

With victory, Wright advanced his pro MMA record to 12 wins (seven knockouts and five submissions) against one knockout loss.
