A triathlete yelled 'you're a f---ing fighter' and hugged a crying rival who finished last in Olympic final
- A heartwarming scene was caught on camera after the conclusion of the women's triathlon.
- Claire Michel was the last competitor to cross the finish line Tuesday at the Olympic Games.
- Lotte Miller, who finished 24th, consoled her, telling her: "You're a f---ing fighter."
The triathlete Lotte Miller paused after the women's Olympic triathlon on Tuesday to offer a pep talk to a crestfallen rival, Claire Michel, who was the last person to cross the finish line at the Tokyo Games.
Fifty-five athletes from 31 nations took part in the event at Odaiba Marine Park, which is a large artificial island in Tokyo Bay, Japan.
Twenty-one people were lapped or did not finish the event, which featured a 1.5-kilometer swim, 40 kilometers of cycling, and a 10-kilometer run.
Bermuda's Flora Duffy claimed gold with a total event time of one hour, 55 minutes, and 36 seconds. The British athlete Georgia Taylor-Brown finished second for silver just over a minute behind Duffy, while Katie Zaferes of the US took the bronze.
Of the 34 competitors who finished the race, Belgium's Claire Michel crossed the line last with a finishing time of two hours, 11 minutes, and five seconds - more than a quarter of an hour after the winner.
Not far from the finish line, Michel dropped to the floor. Miller, the Norwegian who finished 24th with a time of two hours, two minutes, and 43 seconds, went over to console her.
"You're a f---ing fighter," Miller told Michel, who could be heard sobbing.
"This is Olympic spirit, and you've got it 100%," Miller added.
