A Jon Jones vs. Brock Lesnar super-fight could happen in the UFC if both fighters wanted it, Dana White said
- Dana White appears open to a Jon Jones and Brock Lesnar mega-fight in the UFC.
- Speaking at a media event Tuesday, the UFC president said if both athletes wanted to fight, he would book the match.
- The bout is not implausible as Jones vacated his UFC light heavyweight title before Lesnar, a former UFC heavyweight champion, entered free agency after failing to agree a new deal with the WWE.
- "It would be a good introduction for Jones into the heavyweight division," White told reporters. "If they wanted to do it, I would do it."
A Jon Jones and Brock Lesnar mega-fight could happen in the UFC if the fighters really wanted it, Dana White said Tuesday.
Both athletes appear to be free for a heavyweight ruck as Jones recently vacated the UFC light heavyweight championship to move up a division, just before Lesnar — an eight-time WWE champion — entered free agency having failed to strike new terms with the world's premier wrestling company.
There has been great speculation over where Lesnar, who is also a former UFC heavyweight champion, might go next.
White was asked about the rumors he could return to MMA, and though the UFC president said he had not spoken to the 43-year-old, he was seemingly open to bringing him back to the Octagon.
"I haven't talked to Brock," White told the MMA media at a Contender Series press conference Tuesday. "I haven't talked to Brock in probably a year.
"I don't know [if he wants to fight again]. He's 43 years old and he's got a lot of money. So I don't know what his plans are, how his body feels, any of that."
White then said Lesnar would provide Jones with a good introduction to life as a heavyweight fighter.
"I'm sure it's a fight that the fans would want to see," said White. "It would be a good introduction for Jones into the heavyweight division. If they wanted to do it, I would do it.
"If [Brock] calls me and he's interested in fighting, I would obviously consider making that fight."
There had been rumors of Jones being granted an immediate title shot because he had reigned as a champion at 205-pounds in eight of the last 10 years.
This would mean heading straight into a UFC heavyweight championship match against the current ruler Stipe Miocic, overtaking the likes of Francis Ngannou, who has knocked out Curtis Blaydes, Cain Velasquez, Junior dos Santos, and Jairzinho Rozenstruik since his last loss in 2018.
But White said there would be no leap-frogging of Ngannou. "He can't jump over Francis," White said. "Francis has earned his spot. He's been grinding for two years now. He deserves the shot."
