2 American boxers threw and landed the same power punch at the same time, almost sealing an ultrarare double knockout
- Vlad Panin and Benjamin Whitaker fought a preliminary welterweight fight on the six-bout Top Rank card in "The Bubble," a quarantine area in a Las Vegas casino, on Thursday.
- Panin scored a six-round majority decision, edging Whitaker with two scores of 58-56 overruling one of 57-57.
- The ruckus, though, contained a moment so extraordinary it made the ESPN commentator and former boxing champion Timothy Bradley say: "Wow, I've never seen this before in boxing."
- That moment was when Panin and Whitaker threw and landed the same shot at the same time, something that could have yielded an ultrarare double knockout. Watch it below.
Two American boxers threw and landed the same power punch at the same time, the kind of action that could have led to an ultrarare double knockout.
It all went down at "The Bubble," a quarantine area designated for fighting, as the promoter Top Rank continues its coronavirus-era events at the MGM Grand Conference Center in Las Vegas.
In one of the six bouts during Thursday's show, an extraordinary incident capped an otherwise routine welterweight fight between Vlad Panin and Benjamin Whitaker.
During the fight's first round, both Panin and Whitaker hurled left-handed uppercuts that landed with such simultaneous aplomb on each other's chins that it rocked their heads back and provided an extraordinary highlight-reel moment.
This is the unusual kind of event that can yield a double knockout, in which both fighters fall to the canvas and get counted out — the stuff of movies.
"Wow, I've never seen this before in boxing," Timothy Bradley, the ESPN commentator and former two-weight boxing champion, said on the broadcast. "Good shot by both men."

Panin went on to win a six-round majority decision with two scores of 58-56 overruling a 57-57 draw.
With victory, Panin advanced his record to eight wins (four knockouts) against one loss. Whitaker fell to 13 wins (three knockouts) against four losses.
Earlier in the show, there was another movie-esque moment as the ESPN commentator and former two-weight boxing champion Andre Ward said the heavyweight duel between Kingsley Ibeh and Waldo Cortes was similar to the "Creed" franchise.
Ibeh advanced to a record of four wins (four knockouts) against one loss, to Acosta eight months ago, avenging that defeat with a one-paced clubbing.
