South Korean President Moon Jae-in talks with President of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly of North Korea Kim Young Nam and Kim Yo Jong, the sister of North Korea's leader Kim Jong Un, during their meeting at the Presidential Blue House in Seoul, South Korea, February 10, 2018.

  • Kim Jong Un reportedly has an "unconventional" proposal to deliver to the US through South Korean intermediaries headed to the states to pitch nuclear talks.
  • Chung Eui-yong, a South Korean envoy and President Moon Jae-in's security adviser, will reportedly deliver a message to US National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster this week during a two-day visit to Washington beginning Thursday.
  • A South Korean diplomatic source cited by the South China Morning Post said that officials may consider sending Kim Jong Un's younger sister, Kim Yo-jong, with the delegation.
  • Some key details about the diplomatic effort are tightly held, and the developments are still in flux.

Kim Jong Un reportedly has an "unconventional" proposal to deliver to the US through South Korean delegates headed to the US for nuclear talks, a South Korean diplomatic source told the South China Morning Post.

"Kim Jong-un has a certain message, which is not publicized to be delivered directly to the Trump administration," the source told the Post, speaking on condition of anonymity.

"It's something very unconventional and something very unusual. I don't know if the US will disclose this message to the public," the source said.

Chung Eui-yong, a South Korean envoy and President Moon Jae-in's security adviser, is expected to meet with US National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster this week, during a two-day visit to Washington starting on Thursday, Yonhap said.

The diplomatic source told the Post that Chung will deliver "conditions from the North Korean side to start some bilateral dialogue with the United States." Some key details about the diplomatic effort are tightly held, and the developments are still in flux.

The source added that officials may consider sending Kim Jong Un's younger sister, Kim Yo-jong, with the delegation.

"She is the most powerful weapon of North Korea now," the source told the Post.

Kim Yo Jong, often referred to as North Korea's "princess" of propaganda, was a major player in recent diplomatic efforts in South Korea. She was also a fixture at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang last month.

It was the first time that a member of Kim's generation of Pyongyang's ruling dynasty ventured to the South.

South Korea met with Kim Jong Un on Monday to "write a new history" of unification between the Koreas, and potentially broker US-North Korea talks.

Kim has expressed willingness to talk to the US about denuclearizing and achieving peace on the Korean Peninsula, while the US remains skeptically open to the prospect.
