After only existing on mobile phones, Snapchat is coming to a laptop.

Parent company Snap Inc. is building a new version of Snapchat for the upcoming Pixelbook by Google, which functions like a laptop/tablet hybrid and runs Chrome OS.

"We're thrilled to announce that the Snap team is working with us to bring an amazing Snapchat experience to the larger screen on Pixelbook," Google hardware exec Matt Vokoun said during a press conference in San Fransisco on Wednesday.

While other social networks like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter have long offered desktop versions of their platforms, Snapchat has only existed on the iPhone and Android phones to date.

It's unclear how the app, which opens to the phone's rear camera by default, will function on the larger Pixelbook, which costs $999 and goes on sale October 31. The Pixelbook has a front facing camera that would allow for selfies to be sent via Snapchat, but the laptop lacks a rear camera.

Two obvious use cases would be allowing Snapchat users to message each other on the Pixelbook's physical keyboard and access their saved photos and videos through the app's Memories feature.

When asked for comment, a Snap spokesperson said the company was excited about the partnership and would have more to share closer to the device's launch date.
