Digital India's backbone Bharat Net gets an allocation bump in Budget 2017

Under the Bharat Net, optical fibre has been laid in 1,55,000 kms.
Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said that the government will allocate Rs10,000 crore for Bharat Net project in FY18
Jaitley said speed broadband will be available in more 150,000 gram panchayats via Wifi hotspots.
Jaitley announced 'Digi Gaon' initiative will also be launched to provide telemedicine, education and skills through digital technology
