Liquor baron Vijay Mallya is being chased by different banks in India. Mallya, who is dubbed as ‘king of good times’, is now facing charges of conspiracy and fraud as he owes around Rs 9,000 crore to Indian banks.
Mallya’s downfall began after his Kingfisher Airlines was grounded in 2012. It anyway did not make any profit during eight years in operation.
Meanwhile, banks lent Mallya huge sums against personal guarantee and landed in a soup after they had to answer shareholders over massive lending to Mallya.
The company’s losses touched Rs 2,142 crore for its fiscal fourth quarter ending in March 2013, compared with a net loss of Rs 1,150 crores a year earlier. The accumulated losses as of March 2013 stood at a whopping Rs 16,023 crore.
