While Mt. Paektu is an important place for all Koreans, it holds significant meaning in North Korea.

When the group descended to Lake Chon in Mt. Paektu's caldera, President Moon bottled some water to take home.
Moon's family fled the north during the Korean War, and he has said before that he hopes to see the two Koreas united again one day so that he can take his mother back to visit her hometown.

It has previously been said that Kim Jong-un visits the mountain when he has big decisions to make.
During the visit, the two leaders were serenaded by a South Korean pop star who sang a rendition of "Arirang," which is considered the unofficial Korean national anthem.

Moon also said that Kim gave him a private letter to give to US President Donald Trump when he sees him at next week's UN General Assembly.
Later in the day, Moon flew back to South Korea. He said he hopes that Kim will follow suit and visit his country soon, perhaps by the end of the year.

During the three-day summit, Kim and Moon agreed to several joint efforts, including vying to host the Summer Olympics in 2032.
