Sears and its subsidiary Kmart shut down stores in order to stave off liquidation. In January, the stores' new parent company, Transform Holdco, bought 400 stores out of bankruptcy, though some have closed since then.
Z Gallerie's bankruptcy filing in March prompted DirectBuy Home Improvement to buy up the struggling home decor retailer. A chunk of Z Gallerie's stores have closed, but its website still lists dozens of locations.
David's Bridal filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in November 2018 but exited at the beginning of 2019. Today, you can still find the right dress to walk down the aisle in at its surviving stores.

Mattress Firm, a subsidiary of Steinhoff International, sprung out of bankruptcy in November 2018. The famously ubiquitous chain had shut down hundreds of stores.
The bankrupt Kona Grill is being bought by the chain's former CEO, Marcus Jundt. This development comes about as the cocktails-and-sushi chain battles it out in court with a different former CEO, James Kuhn.
Claire's Stores exited bankruptcy in October 2018, and the trendy teen-focused retailer is still open for business today.
