Meet Harmanpreet Kaur, the captain of Indian women cricket team eyeing WT20 trophy
Harmanpreet Kaur is the captain of the Indian women’s T20 cricket team who will lead the team in the World Cup to be held on February 21.
Kaur is from Monga, a small town in Punjab and has been playing cricket for 10 years now.
Kaur scored 171 in 115 balls in 2017 at a one-day World Cup in England without losing her wicket against Australia.
The final match received 126 million views in India — a 300% surge from the 2014 World Cup.
Kaur became the captain of the T20 team in 2018 and represented India. But, the team lost to England in the semi-finals.
The same year, she became the first Indian woman cricketer to score a century in an international T20 match.
On February 18, the Indian women's team registered a thrilling two-run victory over West Indies in their final warm-up ahead of the T20 World Cup in Australia.
India has never managed to reach the finals of a T20 World Cup. The team has been knocked out in the semi-finals thrice. In the last edition which was held in 2018 in the West Indies, they lost to England by eight wickets.
India will begin their tournament with a match against defending champions Australia at the Sydney Showground Stadium on Friday.
