Sir Jadeja Slams Defamation Case On An Eveninger; Asks For An ‘Auspicious’ Fine

Ravindra Jadeja, the noted Indian cricketer, has filed a defamation suit against the editor of an evening newspaper based in Rajkot.

The case has been lodged because of a story printed by the eveninger, stating that Jadeja and his business partner Jenesih Ajmera had alleged links with a certain Bali Dangar, who is accused in cases of land grabbing and extortion. Hiren Bhatt, Jadeja's lawyer, has said that the newspaper printed a false story without any verification, which damaged the image of his client. Apparently, Jadeja has no links with Dangar and is not even associated with Ajmera in any business.

However, what caught our eye were the damages that Sir Jadeja is seeking in the case. He is asking for Rs 51 crores; as is known, numbers that end in 1 are considered to be auspicious in Indian culture and 51, in itself is considered a Shagun.

Coming back to the case, Principal senior civil judge P B Parmar has issued summons to Satish Mehta, who is the editor and owner of 'Aabtak', the eveninger in question. He is asked to be present in the court on 4th February.
