  • Here are some strange and rare signs that might suggest exposure to COVID-19.

There is still a lot to discover about the novel coronavirus that disrupted the world seven months ago and has so far killed over 8 lakh and infected 23 lakh people globally. When coronavirus first broke out, the World Health Organisation had tweeted that there was "no clear evidence" of human to human transmission. However, that soon proved wrong. And now, we are at a stage where reports show that this contagious disease could be airborne.

At first, coronavirus infected people showed symptoms like breathlessness, fever, chills, headache, body ache. It was much later that scientists discovered asymptomatic cases who could be spreading the disease unknowingly. As researchers get to know more about the novel coronavirus, they’ve also reported some new symptoms that patients may develop.

“The problem is that it depends on who you are and how healthy you are,” Dr. Mark A. Perazella, a kidney specialist and professor of medicine at Yale School of Medicine, told NYT.

Here are a few symptoms that could make it to COVID-19 watchlist

Hiccups : In the US, two COVID-19 patients have shown hiccups as their only major symptom. Experts say hiccups can be a rare sign of COVID-19 infection, but it is still very early to say anything about it. Scientists would require a lot more research to determine the relationship between COVID-19 and hiccups.

Hair Loss: Apart from hiccups, hair loss might be yet another rare symptom of COVID-19. Some people who recovered from COVID-19 witnessed hair loss, a recent study claimed. While this study is not peer-reviewed, its results are eerily similar to another study that claimed patients who had COVID-19 reported hair loss two months after recovery.

Purple Toe Rash: Some coronavirus patients, especially teenagers and young adults, have witnessed a painful red and purple rash on their finger and toe — just like frostbite. Experts are calling it COVID-toe.

Blood Clotting : Postmortem of patients who died of COVID-19 reveals severe damage to lungs and blood clotting in some major organs, a recent study led by researchers at Imperial College London and College Healthcare NHS Trust, said. According to this research, at least nine patients had thromboses — a blood clot — in either heart, lung, or kidney.
