<p class="ingestion featured-caption">Hawaii was ranked the happiest state in the US.Alex Krassel/Shutterstock</p><ul class="summary-list"><li>WalletHub released its ranking of the happiest states in the US.</li><li>The study compared the 50 states across categories like community and environment.</li></ul><p>In March, the <a target="_blank" class href="https://worldhappiness.report/news/world-happiness-report-2024-most-comprehensive-picture-yet-of-happiness-across-generations/">World Happiness Report</a> ranked the <a target="_blank" class href="https://www.businessinsider.com/happiness-worldwide-highest-since-pandemic-gallup-global-emotions-report-2024-7">US the 23rd-happiest country</a> in the world — the first time it missed out on a top-20 spot since the report's inception in 2012.</p><p>But how does <a target="_blank" class href="https://www.businessinsider.com/gen-z-student-questions-lithuania-world-happiness-top-ranking-health-2024-9">happiness</a> compare across state lines? That's what one of <a target="_blank" class href="https://wallethub.com/edu/happiest-states/6959">WalletHub's most recent studies</a> aimed to determine.</p><p>The personal finance company compared the 50 states using three categories: emotional and physical well-being, work environment, and community and environment. Each category was quantified using 30 metrics, ranging from life expectancy and share of adult depression to work hours and safety.</p><p>To do so, WalletHub sourced data from the US Census Bureau, the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Sharecare Community Well-Being Index, AmeriCorps, and more.</p><p>From WalletHub's final list, Business Insider pulled the 10 highest-ranked states to identify the 10 happiest.</p><p>From Idaho to Hawaii, here are the happiest states in the country.</p>
