Odisha's COVID-19 cases cross 39,000-mark

The state's recovery figure also breached the 25,000- mark after 1,255 patients were cured of the disease during the last 24 hours.

The total number of recovered people has gone up to 25,738, he said.

Observing a silent prayer in memory of the frontline workers who laid down their lives during the fight against COVID-19, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said, "Odisha has crossed 25,000 plus recoveries which would not have been possible without the hard work, dedication and sacrifice of thousands of COVID Warriors."

As many as 25 front line workers have died while working among the positive cases in Odisha.

Ganjam reported five of the nine fresh fatalities, while Gajapati, Keonjhar, Khurda and Sundergarh districts registered one death each, the official said.

The fresh casualties have taken Ganjam district's COVID-19 toll to 117, while 31 deaths have been registered in Khurda so far, 14 in Gajapati and 11 each in Cuttack and Sundergarh, he said.

Two more COVID-19 patients in Malkangiri and Cuttack districts have died due to other ailments, taking the count of such fatalities to 44 in the state, the official said.

Ganjam district, Odisha's COVID-19 hotspot, reported the highest number of new cases at 201, followed by Khurda (196), Cuttack (168), Sundergarh (83), Keonjhar (80), Gajapati (75), Puri (72) and Nayagarh (60). Twenty other districts reported less than 60 cases each, he said.

The number of active cases now stands at 13,011.

Odisha has so far tested 5,85,505 samples for COVID- 19, including 14,915 on Tuesday, the official added.

After observing the silent prayer, the chief minister administered an oath to people, in which they pledged to adhere to the COPVID-19 guidelines imposed by the state and the central government.

Patnaik also inaugurated two more plasma banks at government hospitals in Berhampur and Burla through video conference.

With these two, the number of plasma banks in Odisha increased to five and all the regions of the state now have a plasma bank each.

Till date, 60 COVID patients have been given plasma therapy and 48 of them are recuperating well, Patnaik said.
