Mindy Kaling goes to pretty great lengths to protect her daughter, Katherine, from the public eye. But on Father's Day, the actress and producer opened up about one aspect of her toddler's life, which allowed Kaling to pay tribute to her own father.
In an emotional Instagram post on Sunday, Kaling shared that her father has visited Katherine every day since she was born in 2017. At points, when the "Office" star was traveling, her dad either flew out to meet the mother and daughter, or he'd Skype with them.
For three months during the pandemic, Kaling's dad has kept the tradition going by wearing a mask and gloves and visiting with Katherine while standing outside of a glass door at the actress' home. He always comes bearing something special, including homemade puzzles and Indian food.
"It's funny how you can love your own father even more by seeing how they love your kids," Kaling wrote in her Instagram post. "I'm so lucky to have him in my life."
Kaling is typically private about her family life. She only shares photos online of her daughter in which Katherine's face is concealed. The "Ocean's 8" star also hasn't yet revealed the identity of her child's father.
"My feeling is that until I speak to my daughter about that," Kaling told The New York Times last year, "I'm not going to talk to anyone else about it."
