India reports 96,760 new coronavirus cases — the biggest single-day addition by any country since the pandemic began

- There were 1,213 deaths reported in the last 24 hours, which is also the highest fatality reported in a single day so far.
- India's deaths per day are now crossing US' which is the worst-hit by the pandemic.

Six months since WHO declared the global pandemic, India's COVID-19 tally has now crossed the 45 lakh mark. India has added 96,760 new coronavirus infections — the highest single-day spike any country has ever added in 24 hours. There were 1,213 deaths reported in the last 24 hours, which is also the highest fatality reported in a single day so far. India on September 9 reported 1,172 deaths and on September 8 there were 1,172 deaths reported. India's fatality cases per day are now crossing US' which is the worst-hit by the pandemic.
On the other hand, India also saw a 100% increase in patients recovered and discharged in the past 29 days, according to the Ministry of Health. So far, 3,471,783 people have recovered from COVID-19.
The overall number of global coronavirus cases has topped the 28 million mark, while the deaths have increased to over 908,000, according to John Hopkins University.
The US accounts for the world's highest number of cases and deaths at 6,395,904 and 191,753 respectively. India currently ranks second in terms of cases at 4,465,863, while the country's death toll stood at 75,062.

India is not only reporting the highest number of infections over the last four weeks but is also among the few countries that have not been able to flatten its curve despite the lockdown.
India is inching closer to reporting 100,000 new COVID-19 infections daily. It may overtake the US to become the worst-hit COVID-19 nation, experts warn.
This comes as the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) published the results of part two of the first national population-based serosurvey to check the transmission of COVID-19 in the country. The findings of the survey, conducted between May 11 and June 4 in 21 states, indicated that 0.73% of adults in India were exposed to Covid-19 infection, amounting to 6.4 million infections in total by early May.
