Coronavirus has started spreading in India and there have 31 confirmed cases so far in the country. Around the world, around 99,000 people have tested positive for coronavirus and over 3,300 people have lost their lives.

How does coronavirus spread?

The coronavirus can spread from person-to-person through the respiratory droplets produced when an infected person sneezes or coughs. Apart from this, a person can also get coronavirus by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose or eyes.

As per a report by The Journal of Hospital Infection, the human coronavirus strain can remain infectious from 2 hours to up to 9 days. WHO has said that coronavirus can stay on surfaces for a few hours or up to several days.

Your smartphone may be a vector for coronavirus, meaning that it may get infected when you go out. A smartphone is something that we touch several times a day and even while eating.

It is important for you to clean your smartphone to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

How to clean your smartphone to prevent the spread of coronavirus

Things you need

  • Distilled water
  • 70% isopropyl alcohol
  • Lint-free microfiber cloth
  • Cotton swabs
To clean your phone, follow the below steps:

  • Unplug your smartphone and take it out of the case before we begin.
  • Now, mix a one-to-one ratio of 70% isopropyl alcohol and distilled water in a bowl.
  • Dip the microfiber cloth in the solution and use it to wipe your device thoroughly.
  • Dip the cotton swabs in the solution and use it to clean the areas that you cannot clean with the cloth like the ports.
  • Now, let your phone dry completely for at least 15 minutes.
Once you are done with cleaning your phone, do not put it inside the case. You also need to clean the case properly to disinfect it.

  • You can clean silicone cases by submerging it in a solution of warm water and dishwashing soap. Take it out and clean it with clean water and wipe it.
  • For hard-plastic cases, you can use the 70% isopropyl alcohol and distilled water solution. Wipe it with a microfiber cloth.
  • If you have a leather case, you can use disinfectant wipes to clean it.
