Here are the blood donation guidelines as per National Blood Transfusion Council.

People between 18 to 65 years of age and above 45 kg weight are eligible to donate blood.

The temperature, blood pressure and pulse of the donor should be normal. The hemoglobin should not be less than 12.5 grams.

The donor should have delivered 1 year ago and stopped lactation.

Patients suffering from cancer, Hepatitis B, C, Tuberculosis, Leprosy, HIV, heart diseases, Epilepsy, Asthma, Thalassemia, Sickle Cell Anemia, bleeding disorders, Polycythemia Vera and diabetes patients using insulin.

Donors should not have been treated for malaria in the last 3 months and should not have received vaccination for Cholera, Typhoid, Diphtheria, Tetanus, Plague, Gammaglobulin in the last 15 days and Rabies in the last one year.

People who have gotten a tattoo or received acupuncture treatment in the last 12 months are not eligible to donate blood.

People who have injected drugs intravenously are not eligible to donate blood.

People who have received dental treatment such as surgery, root canal, extraction, root planing, crown or gum autograft cannot donate blood for 3 days.

People who are taking any medicine are advised to consult their doctor before donating blood.
