The reconstruction surgery was done 10 days back and the patient's arm has now started moving and has sensation.

Consultant of Plastic Surgery, Dr Vaibhav Khanna, while briefing about the case, said: "The right hand of the patient, Saurabh, was almost completely severed from the shoulder and hanging from only one nerve. As soon as he was admitted to the hospital, a nine-hour long procedure involving multiple surgeries and bone grafting was performed in which not only the arm, but muscles and nerves were also reattached."

"The anaesthesia team reconstructed all the neurovascular structures and soft tissues. At the same time, for vascularisation, a flap of muscle from the chest was transplanted and the muscles of the hand were repaired.

Simultaneously, to fix the broken humerus mid shaft, the orthopaedic team decided to do internal bone fixation," he explained.
