'Claws' star Niecy Nash came out in a photo of her wedding to new wife Jessica Betts
- Niecy Nash came out on Instagram, announcing her marriage to her "homegirl" Jessica Betts.
- The two kept their relationship private for the most part, appearing as close friends in social media posts.
- "Mrs. Carol Denise Betts @jessicabettsmusic #LoveWins," Nash captioned a photo of her and Betts walking down the aisle.
"Claws" actress and comedian Niecy Nash came out as queer on social media and announced her marriage to singer Jessica Betts.
Nash posted a picture on social media of the two walking down the aisle, Nash in a white mermaid style wedding dress and Betts in a white pair of slacks with a matching button-down shirt and vest.
"Mrs. Carol Denise Betts @jessicabettsmusic #LoveWins," Nash captioned a photo on Instagram. Betts captioned the same photo on her Instagram "I got a whole wife."
Nash and former husband Jay Tucker divorced in March of 2020, the Daily Mail reported.
While Nash never openly discussed her sexuality, she did say her divorce from Tucker helped her own her truth.
"Trust that it is so much easier to walk in your truth than it is to run towards a lie," Nash said at the 2020 Essence Black Women in Hollywood Awards Luncheon, according to People. "Make a decision about what you now know. You gotta own the part you play, that's important. You gotta forgive yourself and others."
Nash told People she doesn't view the wedding as a coming out, "rather [it's] a going into myself and being honest about who I love. And I'm not limiting myself on what that love is supposed to look like."
Nash and Betts kept their relationship private over the years, becoming close friends after she married Tucker.
Betts even appeared in an episode of "Claws" in 2018.
While the two remained close over the years, Nash told People something changed after her and Tucker officially separated in October 2019.
"I loved her before I was in love with her because she is such a special human being," says Nash. "But we began to see each other in a way we never had before. Sometimes you get so broken by love, you run from it. But I've learned that you should always hold space for magic because it can happen at any time."
"[My marriage] has absolutely nothing to do with gender and it has everything to do with her soul," Nash told People. "She is the most beautiful soul I have ever met in my life."
