Monsoon rain wreaks havoc in Himachal and Karnataka, orange alert in Gujarat

- A similar situation was reported in Karnataka as heavy rains continue to batter in some of its districts.
- In Gujarat, the meteorological department has forecasted heavy rainfall in three districts of south Gujarat and has issued orange alert in the state.

Monsoon has officially arrived in India, and several states are already enjoying the rainy season. However, the monsoon rain in various parts of the country is wreaking havoc.A woman was killed while two others were injured due to landslides due to heavy rain in Himachal Pradesh. Since Tuesday night, cloudbursts and landslides have been reported at many places in the state.
Landslides occurred in the Dhalli area of Shimla as heavy pouring occurred throughout Tuesday night. A cloudburst was reported in Choj Nala in Manikaran Valley of Kullu district.
A similar situation was reported in Karnataka as heavy rains continue to batter in some of its districts. Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai announced on Wednesday that he had directed the officials to take immediate relief measures in the regions where rain has wreaked havoc.
“The rain has caused damage in many areas. I have spoken to concerned DCs and asked them to take up necessary relief measures,” said Bommai.

Heavy rainfall in Gujarat
In Gujarat, the meteorological department has forecasted heavy rainfall in three districts of south Gujarat — Valsad, Navsari, and Surat and also has issued an orange alert.
While Gir Somnath, Porbandar, and some other districts of Saurashtra and the Bharuch district in Gujarat are likely to receive heavy rainfall in the next 3-4 days.
“Low pressure developed in the region is likely to bring extremely heavy rains in south Gujarat and people are advised not to venture out unnecessarily, or move to a safe place if they are living in low lying areas,” said Manorama Mohanty, director of met department in a media briefing.
However, to keep the situation under control, the state government has deployed NDRF, and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams at essential locations.
