An artist made these stunning dresses and suits out of plants
Dextras, who lives in Vancouver, makes dresses and suits from recycled flowers, leaves and branches. She has made over 50 garments so far.
The collection includes everything from flower gowns to cabbage leaf shoes. She chooses the plants based on what's in season.
The photos narrate a sci-fi story by Dextras. The people are climate change survivors in a post-apocalyptic future "where the fragility of life is palpable and the need for beautification and fashion persists," she says.
A succession of natural disasters caused the economy to collapse, and the survivors must forage to make sustainable, recyclable clothing.
The work is meant to critique the wastefulness of fast fashion, which produces 11 million tons of clothing that end up in US landfills, Dextras says. The clothing isn't usually biodegradable, so it sits there for at least 200 years.

Dextras is known for creating ephemeral installations that deal with environmental issues and consumer culture. Artist Nick Cave, who made garments from metal flowers, has inspired her work.
Art Works for Change produces traveling exhibitions, but this is the first time it has put art online.
Dextras says future fashion may look nothing like we've imagined it in the past.
"I predict that forthcoming generations will not be wearing shiny silver outfits, but in all likelihood clothing made from a derivative of pomegranate peels," she says.
