Politics2 min read

sarah palin, election nightFormer Alaska Gov. and Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin is rejoining Fox News as a contributor, the network said Thursday.

The move would reunites Palin and Fox after the two parties decided to part ways in late December. It was first reported by The Drudge Report.

"The power of Fox News is unparalleled," Palin said in a statement released by the network. "The role of Fox News in the important debates in our world is indispensible. I am pleased and proud to be rejoining Roger Ailes and the great people at Fox."

Fox Chairman and CEO Roger Ailes said he had "several conversations" with Palin about returning to the network. Palin's first stint with Fox lasted three years.

It was not without its share of rough patches, such as when Palin posted a message to her Facebook wall alerting her followers that Fox had abruptly canceled her appearances in the heart of the 2012 campaign. The Daily Beast's Howard Kurtz reported that Fox made a limited effort to keep Palin, offering her a new contract that was only a "fraction" of her previous $1 million annual salary.

According to a study by University of Minnesota professor Eric Ostermeier, Palin appeared 150 times across the Fox networks during her three-year stint. She was paid an average of $15.85 per word, Ostermeier found.

Here's the full release from Fox:

Former Alaska governor and 2008 Republican Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin is rejoining FOX News as a contributor, announced Roger Ailes, Chairman and CEO of the network. Palin will appear on FOX News Channel’s (FNC) daytime and primetime programming, starting with FOX & Friends on Monday, June 17th. She will also contribute to FOX Business Network (FBN).

In making the announcement, Ailes said, “I’ve had several conversations with Governor Palin in the past few weeks about her rejoining FOX News as a contributor. I have great confidence in her and am pleased that she will once again add her commentary to our programming. I hope she continues to speak her mind.”

Author of two New York Times best-selling books, Palin rose to national prominence during the 2008 President election and has since made a mark as a political commentator. From January 2010 to January 2013, she served as a contributor for FNC. In 2010, Palin was named to Time Magazine’s “100 Most Influential People” list.

Governor Palin stated, "The power of FOX News is unparalleled. The role of FOX News in the important debates in our world is indispensible. I am pleased and proud to be rejoining Roger Ailes and the great people at FOX."

Prior to joining Sen. John McCain on the 2008 presidential ticket, Palin was the first woman to serve as governor of Alaska, taking the oath in 2006. As governor, she worked on improving resource development, education, health and transportation and infrastructure development. Palin also served two terms on the Wasilla City Council in Alaska as well as two terms as the mayor of Wasilla, and worked as an oil and gas industry regulator.
