Samsung has improved the cameras on its flagship smartphones incrementally each year. Now, however, it looks like Samsung is looking to do more than just make its smartphone cameras better - it wants to make a phone with two cameras.

Korean news source ET News reports that Samsung is working on a new phone with two cameras. The goal is to finish the project by the end of the year, the report says citing industry sources.

Samsung will likely focus on this device after it releases its next major smartphone, which will presumably be called the Galaxy S7, the report says.

ET News writes that Samsung will explore this idea by looking at "market situations." This makes it sound like it will be a limited release phone similar to the Galaxy Round device Samsung unveiled in 2013. That phone was only released in certain markets, mostly because Samsung wanted to gauge market interest to see whether or not it was worth rolling out broadly.

A dual camera setup allows smartphones to capture images with more depth. HTC released a smartphone with two cameras back in 2014. Since the HTC One M8 has two cameras instead of one, it's possible to add certain camera effects after the image has already taken, such as blurring the background. Images also have a slight effect that's similar to 3-D since there's more depth.

Rumors circulated earlier this year that Apple was considering a similar camera setup for its latest iPhone since the company acquired LinX, an Israeli camera company that specializes in 3-D object modeling.
