  • Samsung may be giving out samples of its foldable screen technology to other tech giants like Apple and Google.
  • Samsung can currently produce approximately 2.4 million foldable display a year.
  • Apple’s new iPhone XS and XS Max also use OLED components supplied by Samsung.
The unveiling of the Samsung Galaxy Fold ahead at the Unpacked event earlier this month disrupted the smartphone community. Now, there are reports that Samsung has sent “samples” of its foldable smartphone technology to other smartphone manufacturers like Apple and Google.

According to South Korea’s ET News, Samsung’s home turf, the samples sent to other tech giants measured 7.2 inches and were only 0.1 inches smaller than the main panel of the Samsung Galaxy Fold.

The report also remarked that Samsung currently has the capability to produce nearly 2.4 million foldable displays in a year and is mulling over ramping up production to 10 million per year.

Old friends

Even though the partnership between Samsung and Apple has soured since the ‘patent infringement’ debacle — the South Korean company has continued to supply components for iPhones.

iPhone 7’s memory chips were shipped over and even the most recent iPhone XS and XS Max have OLED components provided by Samsung.

Apple Insider reports that even if Apple is able to provide a competitive foldable phone — it won’t be ready till at least 2020. Samsung’s Galaxy Fold already comes with a hefty $2000 (₹141,859) price tag. But, the prospect of a foldable Google smartphone should excite Pixel users.
