Disney may be acquiring many of Fox's assets, but Deadpool won't be joining the Avengers just yet if Tony Stark has anything to say about it.
Ryan Reynolds posted a "rejection letter" to his Deadpool character from Stark/Iron Man on Twitter on Sunday after "Avengers: Infinity War" broke the opening weekend box-office record.
"Infinity War" opened to $250 million over the weekend, beating "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" (which opened to $247.9 million in 2015) for the biggest opening weekend ever.
Reynolds celebrated the occasion by tweeting: "From a guy who never knows when to quit, I'm glad you guys never did. Congrats #Avengers." He included a photo of a letter in which Stark tells Deadpool "absolutely not" regarding joining the Avengers, and to "go bother Prof. X."
The Deadpool movies are loosely connected to the X-Men universe, which explains why Stark mentions Professor X. The film rights to Deadpool and the X-Men are owned by Fox, but Disney, which also owns Marvel, announced in December that it would buy Fox's film studio and many of its television assets for $52.4 billion.
It's unknown whether Disney and Marvel Studios will integrate the X-Men characters into the Marvel Cinematic Universe once the merger is finalized, but Reynolds' humorous tweet pokes fun at the idea that Deadpool wouldn't exactly be welcomed.
"Deadpool 2" comes to theaters May 18.
