Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani is in talks to join President Donald Trump's legal team, according to The Daily Beast.

Giuliani was a strong supporter of Trump, a fellow New Yorker, during his presidential campaign in 2016. Trump considered Giuliani for Secretary of State, but ultimately decided to remove his name from consideration. He has served as an informal adviser to Trump since taking office.

Before Giuliani's political career, the 73-year-old former Republican presidential candidate served as the US Associate Attorney General and US Attorney for the Southern District of New York.

The news comes amid recent shakeups to Trump's personal legal team. Last month, John Dowd resigned from representing the president in Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election, and the Trump campaign's possible involvement.

Struggling to add new lawyers to his team and tied up with foreign policy matters, Trump is currently represented in the probe by Ty Cobb, Jay Sekulow, and Andrew Ekonomou.

The Daily Beast added that "no decision is currently final" on Giuliani.
