Riding On Ciaz, Maruti Suzuki’s Sales Rise By 14% In January

India’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) has reported a jump of 13.9% in its sales, which touched 1,16,606 units in January this year as compared to 1,02,416 units in the same month last year. According to the company, its sales in the domestic market surged by 9.3% to 1,05,559 units as compared to 96,569 units in January 2014.The sales of Ciaz, Maruti’s mid-sized sedan launched in October last year, were as high as 6,005 units. Similarly, the sales of sport utility vehicles (SUVs), including Gypsy, Grand Vitara and Ertiga, went up by 35% at 6,432 units from 4,763 units in the corresponding month last year.
However, the sale of small cars went down 7.3%. “Sales of mini segment cars, including, Alto and WagonR, declined by 7.3% to 35,750 units as compared to 38,565 units in the year-ago month,” the company said. Moreover, not a single unit of its premium sedan Kizashi was sold during the month.
Sales of vans like Omni and Eeco increased by 8.2% to 10,113 units as against 9,345 units in January 2014.
The MSI’s exports surged by 88.9% to 11,047 units. It had sold 5,847 units in January last year.
