We tried the much-hyped new Oreo churros - here's what we thought

Here they are: the mega-hyped Oreo churros.

These snacks are tricky to find as you won't see them in the snack section: you can find these bite-sized treats in the frozen section of grocery and convenient stores.

After opening the cold packaging, we find a bag of frozen, chocolate, cream filled, mini churros.

Initially, we tried heating them in a microwave — even though the instructions clearly say to heat them in an oven, toaster oven, or frying pan. A worthwhile experiment, but the results were unsatisfying.

Churros are typically fried until they become crunchy, and may be sprinkled with sugar — and these are no different.

So we heated them up properly in a frying pan to maximize crispiness.

Churros are typically hollow, but these three-inch treats have a white cream filling, enveloped in a soft Oreo biscuit.

Also included in the box is a packet of sugar in which to roll the crispy mini churros.

The instructions say to place them on a frying pan for 1 minute and 15 seconds.

We tossed them around to make sure they're heated all the way through.

One minute and 15 seconds later, we took them off the stove and rolled them in the provided Oreo sugar.

One bite of the warm chocolaty treat and our eyes widened with surprise.

The Oreo churro is surprisingly tasty when heated correctly. After being on the frying pan, it's crispy and warm on the outside and still cool and gooey on the inside.

It's a simple treat, yet a fun alternative to the regular Oreo cookie.
