Walmart's logo has evolved many times since 1962.Walmart
Walmart has had numerous logos since the retail giant launched in Arkansas in 1962.
The logo has shifted from "WALMART" to "WAL-MART" and then finally, "Walmart," in lowercase without the hyphen.

When Sam Walton opened the retail giant in 1962 with its first store in Rogers, Arkansas, it was named "WALMART" with a straight blue logo.

The then-fledgling retailer decided to change things up two years later. The company created a new logo in black and added a hyphen. The logo was known as the "Font Frontier Logo" and was the first widely used logo for the brand, lasting from 1964 to 1981.

From 1968 to 1981, the retail giant adopted its "discount city" logo that it featured in print advertising and company uniforms. The logo was never used on storefronts.

The retail giant updated its logo again in 1981, keeping the hyphen and changing the font.

Another update came in 1992. Walmart kept the font of its previous logo the same but replaced the hyphen with a star.

Finally, in 2008, Walmart dropped the hyphen and arrived at the blue logo it touts today. The logo includes a yellow "spark," which represents the spark of inspiration that led Sam Walton to create the first store, and each part of the spark is associated with one of the company's values and principles, according to the company.
