Get ready to make your friends jealous, Walmart+ subscribers: You get to try the new Oreo flavor before anyone else.
Oreo unveiled Tuesday the Oreo Blackout Cake cookie, a new limited-edition flavor that will hit shelves nationwide next week. Walmart merchandising director Kyle Lanham took to LinkedIn to share that Walmart+ members could get their hands on the special cookies starting Wednesday afternoon, thanks to a partnership with Mondelez International, the owner of the Oreo brand.
"Exciting news!" Lanham wrote in the LinkedIn post. "We've teamed up with Mondelez to give you exclusive early access to the new Oreo flavor, Blackout Cake! "
Per Oreo, the new cookie features layers of chocolate cake and dark chocolate cake flavored cremes wedged between the two classic chocolate wafers.
This is just the latest perk Walmart has given to users of Walmart+, the company's membership service that launched in 2020 in response to Amazon Prime.
During the holiday season in 2022, Walmart+ members had early Black Friday shopping deals. Those who sign up for the membership also get special deals on streaming service Paramount+, free delivery for online orders, and deals at participating gas stations.
Walmart does not publicly disclose how many members Walmart+ has. The latest estimate from research group Consumer Intelligence Research Partners is that the platform had roughly 11 million members as of July 2022 — far fewer than the estimated 168 million Amazon Prime members at the end of last year.
