- Cheetos is launching its own mac-and-cheese line, in both box and single cup offerings.
- The mac and cheese will be available in Walmart and online starting today, with more retailers getting the product in 2021.
Cheetos is getting into the mac-and-cheese business.
The cheesy favorite will be released in both a box and single cup format, with the same three flavors that are available in the beloved snack; Flamin' Hot, Cheesy Jalapeño, and Bold & Cheesy.
Both the box and single cup servings can be found at Walmart and online starting Saturday, with the company suggesting retailers price both at just under a dollar.
"We've seen incredible culinary creativity from our Cheetos fans through the years, taking our product and using as an actual ingredient in recipes — whether at restaurants, or now more than ever, at home," said Frito-Lay North America CMO Rachel Ferdinando in a press release. "Cheetos Mac 'n Cheese borrows that culinary inspiration to provide a mischievous mashup of an ordinary fan favorite."
The coronavirus pandemic has led retail brands to experiment with new offerings as consumers' food-buying habits shift as more meals are eaten indoors. Sales of dry foods including cereal and oatmeal are up, for example, leading General Mills to increase production partnerships. Spam sales are also skyrocketing, and mayonnaise consumption is up. Like Cheetos, other brands are also adding a new way to consume their products – Jelly Belly recently launched a sparkling water line in some of its most popular flavors. Meanwhile, grocery staples including meat and eggs are seeing their price increase up to 10%.
Cheetos' new mac-and-cheese line will continue to roll out at other retailers in 2021.
