The store owner who sold $1 billion Powerball ticket plans to take his family on a vacation to Mexico with the $1 million reward
  • An LA convenience store owner will get a $1 million reward for selling the winning Powerball ticket.
  • Nabor Herrera told K-CAL News he plans to take his family on a vacation to Cabo San Lucas.

The owner of a small Los Angeles convenience store has won a $1 million bonus after selling a $1 billion Powerball ticket.

Las Palmitas Mini Market owner Nabor Herrera will receive the seven-figure sum after officials confirmed the Downtown store had sold the winning ticket to an as-yet unknown customer.

Herrera, who didn't realize he'd sold the winning ticket until arriving at work to waiting media on Thursday, told K-CAL News he suspected a Latin person had won the ticket.

On Thursday, Powerball confirmed that someone in California had picked the correct numbers to scoop the $1.08 billion jackpot. This was the third-largest sum in Powerball's history, after a $2.04 billion jackpot last year.

The vendor of a winning lottery ticket gets a 0.5% cut of the jackpot, though the payout is capped at $1 million.

Like gas station owner Joseph Chahayed, who cashed in his share of the record jackpot last year, Las Palmitas's Herrera took home the maximum amount.

Herrera, who has four children, told K-CAL he plans to take his family on a vacation to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico with some of the winnings.

The $1 billion winner hasn't yet come forward. According to a video posted by Inside Edition, one woman entered the store crying and shouting, claiming she was the holder of the winning ticket. She left without showing the press her ticket.

Herrera told-K-CAL he didn't recognize the woman, although his daughter thought the woman's mother might be the winner.
